Electrical stress monitoring
Prevent cable damage with Synaptec’s passive, retrofittable technology.
Conventional monitoring only focusses on the results of cable damage, and not the root cause. Prevent cable damage with Synaptec’s technology, which can identify the underlying electrical causes, reducing operational costs and outages, whilst being easily retrofittable and passive.

Challenges in electrical stress monitoring
Remote condition monitoring of a cable’s structural integrity can be achieved by visual inspection, distributed temperature (DTS) and acoustic (DAS) sensing, or partial discharge monitoring, where space and budgets permit. While these techniques can be helpful, they focus on the results of cable damage and not the underlying electrical causes. Monitoring electrical stress factors provides operators with early warning of cable failures, thereby offering more time to intervene and in a planned manner, incurring less cost and impact on operations and income.
Our solution
Our systems are installed centrally in the substation and make use of passive sensors that are easily retrofittable along the array. Using real-time, synchronised electrical measurements, the system identifies electrical stresses caused by transients, harmonics, and oscillations in offshore arrays. These electrical stresses are a principal underlying factor that leads to cable asset degradation and failure, normally detected later in the process of cable degradation by conventional techniques.
