Today, when a fault occurs in an offshore array cable, typically an entire string of wind turbines are taken out of action for days, weeks or months. In order to find that fault in the first instance, typically an engineer must be sent out in a boat to the offshore substation where they will then reopen each turbine until they reclose on that fault, which can give a massive shock to any high voltage equipment. With Synaptec’s technology, it becomes very quick and easy to instrument the current in and out of each turbine, with the ability to fault find within miliseconds.
