I2MTC 2021 – Virtual event
17-20 May 2021
The International Instrumentation & Measurement Technology Conference, May 17-20th , 2021.
We are pleased to invite you to join our Head of Power Systems Technologies, Dr Steven Blair, and our Applications Engineer, Lloyd Clayburn, as they give a tutorial on Fundamentals and Applications of Distributed Electromechanical Sensing for Power Networks.
This tutorial will explain unique technologies for measuring electrical, thermal, and mechanical quantities using Fiber Bragg Grating-based transducers. It will provide a high-level overview of the measurement processing chain and will compare the merits of the measurement method to those of commercially available alternatives. The practical applications of this technology in electrical power networks will also be described. In particular, it will be shown how providing the full waveform for each electrical measurement location (so-call “continuous point of wave”) offers several new applications beyond the capabilities of existing synchrophasor measurement, such as granular power quality monitoring and advanced fault classification.
